Vicki, Joachim, and the kids took another weekend trip to Ft. Wayne early in the month. While some went shopping and visited with the family, Joachim continued the search for those long lost ancestors at the Allen County Public Library. The most interesting find was a newspaper story dating back to 1912. The story, published in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, The Daily Northwestern, was credited to Frank H. Williams. In it the writer refers to three persons by name, Amy, Homer Stillwell, and Grace Kartholl. Is there a connection? Was the use of the name "Kartholl" a coincidence? There are still no news on finding the immigration or emigration records for the Kartholl clan. The Federal Census of 1910 contains the immigration year, but no first-generation Kartholls could be located. This would have helped narrow down the time window. So far we only know that Kartholls were born in Germany until 1848 and that some died in July of 1852 on their way to Ft. Wayne. That still leaves four years during a time where many made the trip across the Atlantic to the New World.

September 2005
A weekend get-together of a number of Kartholl cousins with families at the lake cabin in NE Indiana. The weather was perfect and it was a lot of fun. Since most of the cousins in attendance were descendents of Alex A. Kartholl, we took the opportunity to pass around some of the newspaper clippings and pictures dating back to 1910 through 1920.

We have lost a member of the family. Tony died on his 88th birthday. He had been battling cancer and fell three weeks prior to his death. Having been the oldest living child of Alex for some time, he had been a great source for family trivia for a number of years. We will miss him!

March 2005
We moved the domain "kartholl.net" from register.com to godaddy.com. With it we also decided to expand the website. The expanded information capabilities should give the family some added visibility.
On a sad note, we need to report the loss of longtime family member. Helen, born in Chicago, died in Florida on March 15, 2005.
